Deer

Here in the rolling country hills, overlooking miles of Lake Brownwood, our guests, club members, and landowners have enjoyed spotting deer at The Hideout. These majestic and gracious creatures can be caught on the grounds, particularly during dawn and dusk. If you happen to stumble upon one of these peaceful animals, stay very still and observe at a distance.

Fish

The Hideout offers easy accessibility to fishing and water sport recreation. Fishing at Lake Brownwood is a well-liked activity among many club members, as the environment of the lake offers an array of highly-rated wildlife year-round. Expect to catch at least one of these 5 popular fish at your next visit to The Hideout:

Bait: Minnows
Favorite Hideout: shoreline, or near submerged trees and boat docks

Largemouth Bass

Season: September through May
Bait: crayfish, shad, and artificial lures
Favorite Hideout: hidden among plants, rocks, roots, or trees for either shelter or food

White Bass

Season: Early May through October
Bait: gizzard, shad
Favorite Hideout: with other White Bass, near the surface where other small fish and insects gather

Channel Catfish

Season: Early May through August
Bait: worms, grasshoppers, shrimp, chicken, or cheese
Favorite Hideout: low or moderate current

Also known as "Yellow Cat," "Opelousa Cat," "Pied Cat," "Mississippi Cat," "Mud Cat," or "Shovelhead Cat"
Season: Early May through August
Bait: worms, insects, or crayfish
Favorite Hideout: in deep cloudy water under a tree or in a cove- at night, they move into shallow areas to feed

Hunting

Hunting is a popular activity at nearby ranches in the Texas Hill Country. The Hideout's ideal location gives you access to a wide variety of game year-round. You can expect to find deer, turkey, dove, quail, duck, javelina, and rabbit - just to name a few! Bird Watching

Imagine waking up to the enchanting sounds of birds chirping right outside your door. The resort offers a tranquil escape in the heart of Texas where you can do just that. An advantage of this hidden location is the abundance of wildlife that is right in plain sight. Just grab your favorite birding binoculars and head to the resort's hills to see what you can find! Make sure to also pack a field guide to help differentiate between the various species of native birds. The Hideout staff recommends the winter season as an excellent time to spot sparrows. Eckert James River Bat Cave Preserve

This preserve is inhabited by roughly 4 million female bats who hide out through the months of May to October. The Central Texas preserve is one of the largest bat nurseries in the country and located in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Lake Brownwood State Park

Explore some of the most loved hiking trails in Brownwood, Texas. Our club members and guests enjoy easy access to this well-ranked Texas state park where there's fun for the whole family. Over three miles are reserved for a plethora of activities, including hiking and biking.

Come and discover a colorful array of animals, birds and aquatic life in one of the most seclusive settings in Texas.
